LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Despite scoring two first-half goals, the Towson field hockey team fell to Rider 4-2 at Ben Cohen Field on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED- Rider (6-1) took an early lead as Jessica Randazzo scored unassisted in the 10th minute.
- Towson (1-6) responded quickly, tying the game up just two minutes later. Senior Stacey Mackintosh successfully capitalized on a penalty corner with junior Sam Zelenack getting credited with the assist.
- The Broncs' goalkeeper Joelle Prettyman left the game in the 15th minute after allowing one goal and not having to make a save. Hannah Isaacs replaced Prettyman in goal for the remainder of the game.
- The Tigers increased their lead to two goals in the 20th minute on a goal from junior Morgan Skavdahl. Senior Kelsey Jenkens earned the assist on the play.
- Towson took a 2-1 lead into halftime, despite being outshot 12-3 in the first-half. Tiger goalkeeper Megan Boyle recorded five first-half saves.
- Freshman Erika McKay tallied her second defensive save of the season in the seventh minute, denying Riders' Melissa Cunningham of a scoring opportunity.
- The Broncs came of halftime strong, tying the game up less than two minutes into the second-half. Rachel Ippolite successfully converted a penalty corner with the assist going to Carlota Alsina.
- Rider would capitalize on two more penalty corners in the game to earn the 4-2 victory over the Tigers. The final two goals were both scored by Cunningham with Alsina earning the assists.
- The Broncs outshot the Tigers 12-4 in the second-half to finish the game with a 24-7 advantage.
- Boyle added three saves in the second half for a total of eight saves. Issacs did not have to make a save to earn the win for the Broncs. Rider had defensive saves recorded by Randazzo and Kesheal Henderson back-to-back in the 49th minute to keep the Tigers scoreless in the second-half.
- Mackintosh recorded her second defensive save of the season for the Tigers in the 56th minute as she denied Riders' Angie Price of a scoring opportunity.
The Tigers close out their weekend road trip with a 12 p.m. game at Monmouth on Sunday, September 20.
