Tigers Remain Hot with 3-0 Win at Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman Jocelyn Kuilan posted a match-high 15 kills to lead the Towson University volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Tennessee Tech in the opening match of the Golden Eagle Invitational. The Tigers (11-1) ran their win streak to 11 straight matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With the two teams tied at 14-14 in the first set, Towson used an 8-4 run to take a 22-18 lead and forcing the Golden Eagles to call timeout. Sophomore Julymar Otero had a pair of kills during the run. Three kills from junior Jessica Lewis sealed a 25-21 first set win for the Tigers.
  • Towson got six kills from Lewis in the set while redshirt freshman Anna Holehouse had eight digs.
  • The two teams battled early in the second set and found themselves tied at 18-18. A block from Otero and junior Lindsay Flaherty followed by a kill from Flaherty gave Towson a 20-18 advantage. A service ace from redshirt senior Aimee Schubert gave the Tigers a 23-19 lead. An attack error by the Golden Eagles gave the Tigers a 25-20 set win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Kuilan had six kills as the Tigers hit .367 in the set.
  • Trailing 10-8 in the third set, the Tigers used a 6-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. Kuilan had a pair of kills for the Tigers during that run. A service ace from Holehouse extended the visitors' advantage to 18-12. Tennessee Tech responded with a 7-1 run to tie the set at 19-19. A pair of kills from Cody Dodd aided the Golden Eagles during the run. Towson went back on top 20-19 before three straight points gave the Golden Eagles a 22-20 edge. Dodd had a kill and a service ace during that stretch. The Tigers called timeout and responded with a 5-1 run to earn a 25-23 set win and victory in the match. Senior Haley Pa'akaula had a pair of kills.
  • Lewis had five kills in the third set while Kuilan and Pa'akaula each added four kills.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Flaherty had a pair of blocks and needs seven more to move into the top 10 for career blocks at Towson.
  • Kuilan has posted double digit kills in eight of the first 12 matches for the Tigers.
  • Lewis has posted double digit kills in three straight matches after putting up 11 this morning.

The Tigers return to action later today as they face Idaho as part of the Golden Eagle Invitational at 6 p.m. (EST).
