TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team permitted eight points over the final 13 minutes and rallied from a 10-point second half deficit during a tough 40-37 setback to the College of Charleston in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game Thursday night at SECU Arena.
Despite limiting the visiting Cougars (11-7 overall, 3-4 CAA) to 33.3 percent shooting, the Tigers (13-7, 4-3) had their winning streak stopped at two games. Towson got a team-high nine points and three blocked shots from junior
Walter Foster. Junior William Adala Moto and senior
Timajh Parker-Rivera combined for 17 rebounds for the Tigers.
"Charleston did a really good job defensively tonight," Towson head coach
Pat Skerry said. "Our guys played hard, but I thought we fought some things tonight. However, as bad as we shot, we still gave ourselves a chance to win."
How It Happened- Charleston's Nick Harris snapped a 36-36 tie and scored the go-ahead basket with 27 seconds remaining off of a broken play.
- The Tigers were 14-for-25 from the free-throw line, including 10-of-18 in the second half.
- Towson missed four foul shots in the final two minutes.
- The Tigers finished with a season-low point total.
- Charleston missed the front end of three one-and-ones late in the second half.
- Towson made 23.9 percent of its shots (11-for-46).
- Charleston led for much of the contest.
- The Cougars built their lead to 32-22 with 13:35 remaining before the Tigers went on a 14-4 run to tie the game on a pair of Adala-Moto free throws with 44 seconds left.
- Towson scored a season low 15 first half points, its fewest since scoring that amount against William & Mary on Feb. 25, 2015.
Inside the Numbers- Charleston outscored Towson, 11-0, in points off turnovers in the first half.
- Towson won the battle of the benches, 17-11.
- The game featured three lead changes and two ties.
- Towson made more free throws (14) than field goals (11).
- Parker-Rivera tied Robert Nwankwo and Rocky Coleman for most games played in Towson history at 119.
- With his eight rebounds, Parker-Rivera moved past Steffan Bunsavage and into ninth place all-time in school history in rebounding. He has 601 career rebounds.
- Towson fell to 8-2 at home this season.
- Charleston's Cameron Johnson was the only player to finish in double figures. He scored a game-high 10 points.
- In winning the battle of the boards 42-33, Towson grabbed 16 offensive rebounds.
- Towson's defense held Charleston 30 points below its season average of 70.5.
- Adala-Moto attempted the same number of free throws (nine) as the entire Charleston team.
- Foster has blocked 15 shots in his last three games. He has 35 blocked shots this season.
- Charleston ended a four-game losing streak to Towson.
