FAIRFAX, Va. – The Towson women's tennis team earned a decisive 6-1 victory over George Mason to open its dual match schedule on Friday evening at the International Country Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED (DOUBLES)

• The Tigers won two of the three doubles matchups to earn the doubles point.
• Nicole Shakhnazarova and Barbora Vasilkova teamed up for a 6-2 win over the Patriot's Brittany Pilkington and Sydney Green.
• Renate van Oorschodt and Sophie Lesage earned a close 7-5 victory over Esu Erdenebat and Olivia Lacy-Thompson.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (SINGLES)

• Lucy Williams played the top singles spot for the Tigers, winning 6-0, 7-6(1) against Brittany Pilkington.
• Vasilkova had a close first set, defeating Sydney Green 7-6(5) but followed it with a 6-2 win in the second set for the victory.
• Lesage defated Marijke Boers 6-4, 7-6(2) in the third spot to help the Tigers sweep the top-three singles spots.
• van Oorschodt picked up her second win of the day, earning a 6-3, 6-1 win over Olivia Lacy-Thompson.
• Lucy Gloninger wrapped up the Tigers' singles wins with a strong 6-2, 6-3 win against Esu Erdenebat.

"We beat a very scrappy Mason team that fought until the end," said head coach Doug Neagle. "Good start to the year but we have a lot of work to do."
 
The Tigers return home to host Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival James Madison on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 12:30 p.m. at Bare Hills Racquet Club.
