PRINCETON, N.J. – Despite a combined 22 saves in goal, the Towson University field hockey team fell 8-0 at No. 11 Princeton on Sunday afternoon.
Princeton (9-5) used five first half goals to defeat Towson (2-13). The matchup was the first meeting between the two Tiger teams.

Happened
- Princeton got on the board early as Ryan McCarthy scored from Carlotta von Gierke in the sixth minute.
- Princeton added a second goal at 15:32 on a penalty corner opportunity. Cat Caro scored with the assists to Sophia Tornetta and Elise Wong.
- Princeton scored three times in just under seven minutes to take a 5-0 lead over Towson at halftime. The Tigers' first goal came from Lexi Quirk as she rebounded McCarthy's initial shot. The second Princeton goal was another second chance goal as Tornetta corralled McCarthy's shot. The Tigers' final goal in that span was von Gierke from Quirk at 26:58.
- Megan Boyle took over in the Towson goal, replacing Emilee Woodall after Princeton's third goal. Woodall made six saves over 20:11 for Towson.
- The second half opened with another Caro goal, this time from Taylor Nolan in the 40th minute.
- The Princeton Tigers added two final goals just under three minutes apart. McCarthy scored at 52:50 from Quirk, while Caro completed the hat trick at 55:45, scoring again from Nolan.
Behind the Numbers
- Princeton outshot Towson 44-0 and held a 6-0 advantage in penalty corner opportunities. Towson's defense allowed Princeton to convert on just one of those penalty corner chances.
- Boyle and Woodall combined for 22 saves in goal for Towson. Woodall made six over 20 minutes of action and Boyle tallied 16 over the game's final 49:49. Boyle was just two saves shy of her career-high 18.
