HARRISONBURG, Va. – Despite combing for 19 team saves, the Towson University field hockey team fell on the road to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival No. 19 James Madison, 12-0 on Sunday.

James Madison (7-3, 1-1 CAA) scored five times in the first half and added six second-half goals to defeat Towson (2-9, 0-2 CAA) at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.

How it Happened
  • James Madison got on the board early as Miranda Rigg scored unassisted in the game's eighth minute.
  • The Dukes increased their lead to 3-0 as Ashley Gippe scored twice in five minutes. Her first goal was assisted by Niamh Dixon and the second goal by Florien Sondern.
  • James Madison's Melanie Kusakavitch scored from Sarah Floeter in the 24th minute for the Dukes' fourth goal of the game.
  • Towson's Megan Boyle came in at 26:48 to relieve Emilee Woodall in goal. Woodall made seven saves during that span.
  • Boyle tallied five saves over the final eight minutes of the first half but James Madison scored with time expiring to take a 5-0 lead into halftime. The Dukes' Hannah Hall scored unassisted with one second left.
  • James Madison scored twice in the first 14 minutes of the first half. Floeter scored unassisted while Rigg tallied her second of the day on a penalty corner.
  • Woodall returned to goal for the Tigers in the game's 49th minute. Boyle made six saves over 23:04 of action.
  • The Dukes added three goals in six minutes, converting two penalty corner opportunities in that span to take a 10-0 lead.
  • James Madison's Rigg recorded her fourth goal of the game with an unassisted goal in the 64th minute. Rachel Maizel scored the games' final goal from Corey Mayer with three minutes left.

Behind the Numbers
  • Towson's Woodall and Boyle combined for 19 saves, the second-most in a game this season. The Tigers have recorded double-digit saves in all but two games this season. Boyle finished with six saves, just one save shy of matching her season-high, while Woodall recorded 13 saves.
  • James Madison recorded 50 shots while keeping the Tiger offense without a shot. The Dukes' 50 shots were the most the Towson defense has faced all season.

Up Next
  • Towson splits its action next weekend, hosting CAA foe Hofstra on Friday before traveling to Lehigh on Sunday. The Tigers and Pride will face off at 6 p.m. inside Johnny Unitas® Stadium on Friday. Sunday's game between the Tigers and Mountain Hawks will be at noon.
