Field Hockey Drops Home Decision to Hofstra

TOWSON, MD. – Despite Emilee Woodall finishing one save shy of her career-high, the Towson University field hockey team fell 3-0 to Hofstra on Friday evening.
 
Hofstra (9-4, 1-0 CAA) used a pair of goals from Claudia Marin Samper to defeat Towson (2-10, 0-3 CAA) in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) matchup.
 
How it Happened
  • Woodall made four early saves for the Tigers as seven chances over the game's first 10 minutes.
  • Towson's Lexi Butler had her team's lone scoring chance of the game in the 15th minute but was unable to get the ball past Lauren Saltus.
  • Marin Samper opened the game's scoring, tallying an unassisted goal at 20:30.
  • Woodall continued her impressive play, adding two more saves before blanking Lara Bittel on a penalty stroke chance in the 26th minute.
  • With under two minutes to play in the first half, Marin Samper added her second goal of the day. The assist went to Emily Gallagher at 33:38 to give Hofstra a 2-0 lead.
  • Towson was given a penalty corner opportunity four minutes into the second half but was unable to convert.
  • The second half was scoreless for the first 30 minutes as the Tiger defense fought off eight penalty corner opportunities by the Pride.
  • Hofstra scored its final goal of the game with five minutes left on the clock. Marloes Schavemaker converted a penalty corner from Gallagher at 65:16.
 
Behind the Numbers
  • Woodall recorded 15 saves, including an impressive nine in the first half, to finish the game just one save shy of her career-high (16). She has recorded double-digit saves in nine games this season.
  • Hofstra outshot the Tigers 25-1. Butler had the Tigers' lone shot, her 14th of the season.
  • The Pride were awarded 18 penalty corners to the Tigers' one, converting on one of their chances.
