First Half Goals Costly For Towson Field Hockey

BETHLEHAM, Pa. – The Towson University field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to Lehigh on Sunday afternoon at Ulrich Sports Complex.
 
Lehigh (5-8) used three first half goals to defeat Towson (2-11).
 
How it Happened
  • Lehigh tallied the game's first goal as Marissa Glatt redirected a pass from Gabby Tofig that trickled in past goalkeeper Emilee Woodall in the 14th minute.
  • Three minutes later, the Mountain Hawks added their second goal of the game. Isabel McKeown scored after getting a piece of a long hit from Kassidy Green outside the circle.
  • With under four minutes remaining in the first half, Lindsay Alvarez scored unassisted to give Lehigh a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
  • Tofig scored her first of the game, assisted by Lauren Dice, just three minutes into the second half to increase Lehigh's lead to four goals.
  • With 26 minutes remaining in the game, Megan Boyle relieved Woodall in the Tiger goal. Woodall recorded seven saves over the game's first 44 minutes.
  • In the 59th minute, Teresa Carotenuto scored on the open goal from a Jackie Renda pass for Lehigh's fifth goal.  
 
Behind the Numbers
  • Lehigh outshot the Tigers 20-0, including a 13-0 mark in the first half. The Mountain Hawks were awarded five penalty corner opportunities but the Tiger defense denied the Mountain Hawks of all five chances.
  • The Tiger goalkeepers combined for eight saves. Woodall tallied seven first-half saves and Boyle added a save over the final 26 minutes of play.
 
Up Next
Towson stays on the road for a pair of nonconference matchups, traveling to Virginia Commonwealth University on Friday, Oct. 14 and Princeton University on Sunday. The Tigers and Rams are scheduled to face off at 5 p.m. The two Tiger teams will have a 1 p.m. tilt.
