Women’s Soccer Nipped at Northeastern Friday Night

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Towson University women's soccer team hit the road Friday night to kick off the final week of regular season action in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The Tigers fell 2-0 at Northeastern University as the Huskies scored once in each half at Parsons Field.

Towson (6-11-1, 3-5-0 CAA) struggled to generate offense as Northeastern out-shot the Tigers 20-3.

How It Happened
  • The Huskies (11-6-1, 6-2-0 CAA) pressured early, taking three shots and three corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the game. Only one of those attempts was on goal, however. Redshirt junior Taylor Sebolao made her first of seven saves in the 14th minute.
  • Northeastern took a 1-0 advantage in the 25th minute as Hannah Lopiccolo goal. The Huskie scored from 35 yards out on a direct kick.
  • Towson got its first shot of the evening in the 28th minute as substitute Nikki Logan put a chance on frame, but was stopped by Nathalie Nidetch.
  • The Tigers finished with two saves from Sebolao in the first half, while Northeastern had one from Nidetch.
  • Northeastern started the second half putting on the pressure with four corner kicks in the first 15 minutes. Tiger senior Marissa Green ripped off a shot that went right in the 50th minute of the match, proving to be Towson's final shot of the night.
  • In the 63rd minute of the game, lightning in the area forced a 39-minute delay.
  • Northeastern extended its lead in the 82nd minute as Hannah Rosenblatt scored on a cross from Nicole Gorman. The latter got a pass from Carly Wilhelm, who was credited with a secondary assist.

Behind the Numbers
  • Sebolao made seven saves on the night, including five in the second half. Nidetch stopped the Tigers' lone shot on goal during her 87 minutes on the field. Jill Quinn played in the final three minutes and forty seconds.
  • Three different Towson players, Green, Logan and Elizabeth Coletti, took shots. The latter two came off the bench. Logan was the only player for Towson to put a shot on goal.
  • Northeastern had eight corner kicks, getting four in each half. Towson had just one, coming in the first stanza.

Up Next for the Tigers
  • Towson heads to Long Island on Sunday for the regular season finale against Hofstra. On Friday night, the Pride upended James Madison, which was tied for first in the league with Northeastern.
  • Following Hofstra's senior day festivities, the Tigers and Pride square off at 1 p.m. at the Hofstra Soccer Complex.
  • Hofstra and Towson have nine points apiece in the league standings, each with a 3-5 CAA record.
