HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Towson and College of Charleston (15-7, 8-2 CAA) battled through eight ties and six lead changes in the first set. The Tigers jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead as Kuilan had three kills in the first six points. Trailing by three, 9-6, the Cougars used a 5-2 run to tie the set at 11-11. The two teams traded points before Charleston took a 20-17 lead on a pair of errors by the Tigers. After a Towson timeout, the Tigers scored five of the next eight points and pulled to within one, 23-22. A pair of attack errors by the home team put the Tigers within one of winning the set, 24-23. The Cougars responded with back-to-back points and took a 25-24 edge. Towson took its second timeout and after the break, a pair of attack errors by the home team and a block from Flaherty and freshman Anabella Pope gave Towson a 27-25 set win.
  • The Tigers again got off to a quick start in the second set as a service ace from Pope gave Towson a 5-1 lead and forced the Cougars to call an early timeout. Three straight kills from Devon Rachel helped the Cougars take an 8-6 lead. Towson took a 9-8 lead on a kill from redshirt senior Candace Steadman. However that was the last lead of the set for the Tigers. Charleston used an 8-2 run to take a 16-11 advantage. The Cougars posted a 25-16 set win to tie the match at 1-1.
  • A kill from Rachel helped the Cougars open up a 12-4 lead in the third set. Charleston pushed its lead to 19-10 on a kill from Lauren Freed. The two teams continued to battle before an attack error by the Tigers gave the Cougars a 25-14 set win and a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • A service ace and a kill from Flaherty allowed Towson to take a 6-1 lead in the fourth set. Back-to-back blocks from Flaherty and Pope pushed the Tiger advantage to 15-9.
