TOWSON, Md. – The Towson volleyball team improved to 15-3 overall and 3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) after going 2-1 during a tough stretch that saw the Tigers play three matches in four days. Freshmen
Jenni Young and
Emily Russell are writing a blog this season for TowsonTigers.com called "Through the Eyes of the Tigers" detailing life as a freshman in college and as a student-athlete. Young and Russell check in this week to talk about the Hometown Heroes visits and a wild end to one of the matches.
Hey Tiger Fans!
It has been another wonderful week to be part of the Gold and Black Attack.
During practice last week, we were visited by Hometown Heroes. It was a cool experience for them to speak with us. We learned about what strong females in the military, police force and fire department have gone through and had to accomplish to rise to the level of leadership and respect they currently hold. All of the speakers were super inspiring and gave the team more motivation to work hard and dream without limits.
Check out the pictures from our practice visitors here.
On Friday, our game against College of Charleston was dedicated to all the Hometown Heroes. Unfortunately, we had a tough five set loss on the night. One good thing about the way our schedule is set up is that we play matches close together and there isn't a lot of time to dwell on a loss because we have to get ready for the next one.
The next day we bounced back and beat UNC Wilmington! It was really awesome to come back from a loss and beat the defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champs!! The Seahawks challenged us all over the court but we kept responding and played our game.
On Monday we played Elon and that match featured one of the most intense sets I have ever been a part of. We went to five sets and the score in that last set finished at 23-21. We normally only have to play to 15 to win a fifth set! It was insane how long the last one was. That game really showed how awesome it is to be a Towson Tiger! The match was filled with wild plays, if you want to see one of them, visit
@NCAAVolleyball on Twitter. Shout out to all our teammates who hit the floor to keep the ball in play on that one and to
Lindsay Flaherty and
Payton Windell for finishing it off with a block.
We're back on the road this week, heading to Hofstra tonight and playing at Northeastern on Saturday. Hope to see you in Long Island and Boston!
Also we'll be back in SECU Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 11 to host Delaware State at 6 p.m. We'd love to see you there.
Until next week, GO TIGERS!!
