HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wagner opened up the game on a 9-4 run as Tanasia Russell had five points for the Seahawks. Towson used a 13-0 run to take a 17-9 lead on the Seahawks at the end of the first quarter. A steal and layup by Raven Bankston jumpstarted the run with 3:28 remaining in the stanza. The Tigers closed out the first quarter with another Raven Bankston steal, this time with redshirt junior Raine Bankston connecting on the layup.
- Towson's defense came alive in the second quarter, forcing Wagner to turn the ball over nine times during that 10 minute stretch. The Tigers outscored the Seahawks 15-7, led by Martin with six points, two defensive rebounds and an assist.
- The Tigers held a 32-16 lead at halftime. Towson shot 51.8% from the field while holding Wagner to a 23.3%.
- Towson opened up the third quarter on a 9-2 run. Martin dominated during that run, scoring seven points, including a three-pointer and a pair of free throws. Wagner's only points came during two trips to the charity line. Sophomore Brittany Tarr was a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line to close out the third quarter.
- Wagner turned in its best performance of the game in the fourth quarter, shooting 46.7% from the field and going 3-6 from behind the arc. Junior Braysia Hicks tallied a career-high five points for the Tigers during the final 10 minutes.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Towson improved to 2-0 to start the season for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
- The meeting was the first ever between the Tigers and Seahawks.
- Twelve Tigers scored at least one point in the game as the Tigers used a balanced attack. Towson got 32 points from its bench in the contest.
- The Tigers forced 24 turnovers by Wagner and scored 30 points off those turnovers.
- Towson outrebounded the Seahawks 47-36. The Tigers scored 13 off its points off second chance opportunities, while limiting Wagner to just two second chance points.
The Tigers return home to host Cornell on Saturday, Nov. 19 at noon. That contest will be a special throwback game as the Tigers host the Big Red in the Towson Center.
