TOWSON, Md. – A big first quarter lifted Rider University to a 79-75 win over the Towson University women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon in SECU Arena. Towson had four players score in double figures, led by sophomore guard
Sianni Martin's 22 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Broncs (7-2) shot the ball well in the first quarter and opened up 21-6 lead after 10 minutes of play.
- Rider hit four three-pointers in the stanza as Robin Perkins had eight points.
- Kamila Hoskova connected on a lay-up at 6:19 of the second quarter, which gave Rider a 34-13 lead. It was the Broncs' largest lead of the game.
- Towson responded with a 16-3 run and pulled to within six, 37-31 with 2:29 to go in the quarter.
- Freshman guard/forward Nukiya Mayo connected on a pair of three-pointers during that stretch while Martin added five tallies.
- Rider scored the final six points of the stanza and took a 43-31 lead at the break. Stella Johnson had four of the Broncs' six during that key stretch.
- Towson shot 50 percent from the field in the second quarter as Mayo finished with 11 points in that 10-minute span.
- After trading baskets early in the third quarter, Towson went on a 12-5 run which cut the Rider lead to six, 53-47 with 2:24 showing on the clock.
- Junior center Daijha Thomas and Martin each contributed four points during that run.
- Rider scored the final four points of the stanza and took a 57-47 lead into the fourth quarter.
- The Broncs opened the fourth quarter by scoring five of the first seven points and forcing the Tigers (6-4) to use an early timeout. Rider led 62-49 with 8:16 to play.
- Towson used a 10-4 run to cut its deficit to seven, 66-59 with 4:39 to play. Senior guard Raven Bankston had four points in that stretch.
- The two teams traded baskets as Hoskova's jumper at 2:28 gave the visitors a 73-63 advantage.
- Towson scored seven of the next eight points and cut the Rider lead to four, 74-70 with 38 seconds left in the game. Bankston had five points during that stretch.
- Rider went 5-for-6 from the foul line in the final 30 seconds to hold off the Tigers and secure the 79-75 win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Rider shot 42.9 percent from the field in the game and connected on 10 three-pointers. The Broncs were also 21-for-25 from the foul line.
- Towson shot 39.7 percent from the field and was 11-for-16 from the charity stripe.
- Both teams grabbed 39 rebounds in the contest. Redshirt junior forward Jordyn Smith had a team-high 10 rebounds while Johnson grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for Rider.
- Towson had four players score in double figures. In addition to Martin's 22 points, Mayo and redshirt junior guard Raine Bankston each had 13 while Thomas contributed 10 points.
- Mayo and Thomas' offensive production was a season-high for both players.
- Towson scored 24 points off 21 Rider turnovers in the game. It was the eighth time in 10 games that the Tigers scored at least 20 points off an opponents' turnovers.
- Towson scored a season-best 42 points in the paint in the contest.
- Perkins led Rider with 23 points while Hoskova added 21 points.
The Tigers take 17 days off for finals and the holidays. Towson will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 29 when it hosts Norfolk State at 7 p.m.
