Towson Falls Short Against Northeastern

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team dropped a tough 47-44 decision to Northeastern Thursday night in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contest at SECU Arena.
 
The Tigers defense was solid as they limited the Huskies to seven points over the final 11 minutes, 43 seconds of the contest. In falling to fifth place in the conference standings, Towson (17-9 overall, 8-5 CAA) was unable to overcome an 11-point second half deficit. Towson trails William Mary (11-2 CAA), William & Mary (9-4), Hofstra (9-4) and James Madison (9-4).
 
How It Happened
  • Junior John Davis was the only Towson player to reach double figures.
  • Davis, who was 7-for-13 from the field, posted his second double-double of the season (18 points, 10 rebounds).
  • Sophomore Mike Morsell sank a 3-pointer with 2:55 remaining to bring Towson to within, 45-44.
  • The Tigers had an opportunity to send the game into overtime but a 3-point shot attempt missed as time expired.
  • Towson held Northeastern to 16.7 percent shooting (2-for-12) in the final 11:40.
  • Northeastern opened the second half by making its first five shots.
  • Northeastern's David Walker, the CAA's leading scorer, scored 11 of his team-high 18 points in the opening nine minutes of the second half.
  • Walker made a 3-pointer with 11:40 remaining that gave Northeastern its largest lead of the game, 40-29.
  • After falling behind, 10-5, early, Towson rallied to take a trio of one-point advantages in the first half.
  • Davis gave Towson its final lead of the contest, 22-21, with 1:17 remaining before intermission.

  • Davis scored in double figures for the 12th time this season.
  • It was Davis' 14th career double-double.
  • In two games against Northeastern this year, Davis averaged 19 points and 10.5 rebounds.
  • Both of his double-doubles were against Northeastern.

  • Towson tied a season-high with 20 offensive rebounds. TU grabbed 20 offensive rebounds against Delaware on Jan. 30.

  • Timajh Parker-Rivera moved into eighth place on the Towson all-time rebounding list with an offensive board with 10:45 remaining.

  • Walter Foster grabbed seven rebounds.
  • It was the seventh time this season Foster has finished with at least seven rebounds.
  • Sophomore Eddie Keith II blocked two shots for the fourth time in his career.
