Stracher's Blast Helps Towson Deliver Opening Knockout

CHARLESTON, S.C. – With a flick of the wrist, sophomore Shelby Stracher gave the Towson softball team a win to remember in its season opener.

One gigantic blow erased a rough day at the plate for Stracher, who blasted a two-run walkoff home run down the leftfield line that gave the Tigers a dramatic, 3-1, victory over Georgetown in the first game of the Willie Jewels Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern Friday morning.

Stracher's favorite athlete, Derek Jeter, would have enjoyed watching her game-winning shot.

How It Happened
  • Stracher crushed a 2-1 offering in the bottom of the seventh inning after Daria Edwards led off the bottom of the inning with an infield single.
  • Edwards led the Tigers with three hits including a RBI double in the bottom of the third inning that tied the game at 1-1.
  • Kendyl Scott, who had two hits, scored the Tigers first run of 2016. She crossed the plate on Edwards' double.
  • Rightfielder Nicole Stockinger led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a double, her second hit of the game.
  • Three of Towson's nine hits were doubles.
  • Towson had a base runner in every inning.
