Towson's Late Charge Comes Up Short

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Olivia Yarbrough and Shelby Stracher led the Towson University softball team during a tough 5-4 setback to host Charleston Southern Friday afternoon in the second game of the Willie Jewels Invitational Tournament.
 
How It Happened
  • Senior Olivia Yarbrough and sophomore Shelby Stracher had three hits each for Towson.
  • Olivia Yarbrough and Kendyl Scott opened the game with consecutive walks for the Tigers.
  • Stracher increased her RBI total to four on the young season with a one-out two-run single in the first inning that scored Scott and Yarbrough helping the Tigers race to a 2-0 lead.
  • Stracher also threw out a runner attempt to steal a base.
  • Charleston Southern sent nine batters to the plate in a four-run bottom of the first inning.
  • Trailing 5-2 in the sixth inning, Towson scored twice to close to within one run.
  • Nicole Stockinger got the action started for the Tigers by reaching safely on an error.
  • Yarbrough's two-out RBI double scored pinch runner Jessica South, cutting the Bucs' lead to 5-4.
  • The Tigers stranded the tying run on base in the seventh inning.
  • Megan Dejter struck out a career-high seven batters in tossing a complete game.
