CHARLESTON, S.C. – Deuces were wild during an explosive sixth-inning for the Towson University softball team. A trio of two-run singles from the triumvirate of
Nicole Stockinger,
Holiday Cahill and
Bailey Boyd paved the way for Towson's 12-5 conquest of IPFW in the first game of Willie Jewel Invitational Saturday morning at Charleston Southern.
How It Happened- The Tigers found their groove as they stormed back from an early 4-1 deficit by scoring 11 consecutive runs.
- Towson pounded out a season-high 13 hits.
- Stockinger and Cahill led Towson's relentless offensive barrage with three hits each.
- Boyd and Daria Edwards also had a pair of hits for Towson, which raised its early season record to 2-1.
- Trailing 4-1 after IPFW scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning, Towson's offense came alive.
- Cahill's RBI single in the fourth inning scored Ambar Hickman with the Tigers' second run of the contest.
- During the fifth inning, Towson's offense detonated like a Fourth of July fireworks show as 11 batters came to the plate.
- Olivia Yarbrough, Kendyl Scott and Shelby Stracher all walked to begin the sixth inning.
- Stockinger's one-out single down the left field line tied the game at 4-4 as Scott and Stacher scored.
- Cahill delivered a two-out single that gave Towson a 6-4 edge it wouldn't relinquish.
- Boyd made IPFW pay for a two-out error by ripping a two-run single to score Cahill and Courtney Johnson to make the score 8-4.
- The Tigers added a pair of runs in the sixth inning before Stracher concluded the scoring with her second home run of the season, a two-run blast that gave Towson a 12-4 lead.
- Hickman tossed 4.1 innings of effective relief to earn her second win of the season.
