Towson Falls Short In Final Seconds At Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University men's basketball dropped an 84-82 heartbreaker to Hofstra University Thursday at the Mack Sports Complex in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) keepsake that featured 21 lead changes and 13 ties.
 
How It Happened
  • Hofstra guard Juan'ya Green collected his 10th assist when he found Rokas Gustys, who capped a perfect shooting night with a layup with 2.7 seconds remaining.
  • Towson's game-winning 3-point attempt hit of the back of the rim as time expired.
  • The Tigers rallied from a 79-71 deficit with six minutes remaining to take an 80-79 lead following William Adala Moto's old-fashioned 3-point play with 84 seconds left.
  • After Green answered with a 3-point play, Mike Morsell tied the game at 82-82 with 56 seconds remaining.
  • Towson had the ball with a chance to take the lead after a big steal by John Davis.
  • Unfortunately, the Tigers were whistled for an offensive foul with 13 seconds remaining that gave Hofstra the ball with an opportunity to win the game.
  • During the second half, Jordan McNeil scored five straight points to help Towson reverse a 66-62 deficit.
  • Towson led 69-68 with 7:17 remaining before Hofstra used an 11-2 run to open its largest lead of the game.
  • Hofstra shot 68 percent in the second half (17-for-25).
  • Towson grabbed its biggest lead of the contest at 21-14 following Adala-Moto's jumper with 11:08 remaining.
  • The game was tied at 43-43 at intermission.

  • The Tigers dropped to 5-3 in CAA road games.
  • Towson dropped into a fourth place tie with James Madison, which lost 95-94, in triple overtime to Northeastern. Both teams are 9-6 in the CAA.
