CONWAY, S.C. – The Towson University softball team turned its 11-1 victory over Appalachian State into a Fourth of July fireworks show in the Kickin' Chicken Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina Saturday morning. In lighting up the scoreboard like the Griswold's holiday lights display, the Tigers are off to their best start since 1994.
How It Happened- Towson finished with a season-high 17 hits.
- The Tigers also stole a season-high eight bases.
- Towson got home runs from Kendyl Scott, Holiday Cahill and Courtney Johnson.
- Scott and Shelby Stracher led Towson's relentless and ruthless offensive barrage with three hits each.
- In addition to her three hits, Scott had two stolen bases.
- Cahill, Nicole Stockinger and Daria Edwards added two hits for the Tigers.
- The Tigers started assaulting the scoreboard early as Scott crushed a solo home run and Stracher added a RBI double for a quick 2-0 Tiger edge.
- Edwards had a two-out RBI single in the top of the fourth inning that expanded Towson's lead to 3-0.
- Johnson's two-run homer highlighted a three-run fifth inning that doubled Towson's advantage to 6-0.
- Cahill hit a grand slam in the Tigers' five-run sixth inning that eventually iced the game for the Tigers.
- Stockinger also contributed a RBI single in the sixth inning.
- Freshman Blakely Thrower earned the win by going the distance.
- After allowing the first two runners to reach base in the bottom of the first, Thrower got help from her defense as they turned a double play.
