CONWAY, S.C. – Towson got hits from seven different players during a 3-2 setback to host Coastal Carolina in the final game of the Kickin Chicken Classic Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened- After falling behind 1-0, Brook Miko's two-out RBI single in the fourth inning tied the game, 1-1.
- Daria Edwards started the rally by leading off the top of the fourth with a double.
- Coastal Carolina reclaimed the lead for good in the fifth inning when Kelsey Dominick smashed a solo shot for a 2-1 CC lead.
- Dominick added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a RBI single for a 3-1 Coastal Carolina advantage.
- Towson's Bailey Boyd immediately got a run back for the Tigers when she led off the top of the seventh inning with her first career homer.
- Megan Dejter struck out four batters in six innings.
- Olivia Yarbrough, Shelby Stracher, Holiday Cahill and Jessica South also had hits for Towson.
Inside the Boxscore- Towson finished the weekend with a 3-1 record.
- Despite having their five-game winning streak ended, the Tigers are still off to one of their best starts in program history at 6-2.
- Edwards stretched her hitting streak to six games.
- Edwards and Stracher are the only players to have reached base in every game.
- Both of Towson's setbacks are to members of the Big South Conference (Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern).
- Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series, 8-2.
- Two of Towson's hit went for extra bases.
Kickin' Chicken Standouts- Stracher hit .556 to lead Towson over the weekend. She had five hits.
- Edwards finished with a .545 batting average in four games.
- Among Edwards' team best six hits were two homers and a double.
- Stockinger had five hits en route to posting a .455 average.
- Cahill slugged a grand slam against Appalachian State.
- Kendyl Scott had four hits, scored four runs and had three steals.
- Towson hit .321 as a team.
- Pitcher Blakely Thrower won two games and compiled a miniscule 0.70 earned run average in 10 innings.
Up NextTowson returns back to action in South Carolina when it competes in the Winthrop Adidas Invitational. The Tigers will play five games in three days beginning on Friday, Feb. 26 against Wagner, Winthrop, Rider, Canisius and Appalachian State.
