Big Fourth Inning Helps Towson Rally Past Wagner

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Towson University softball team bunched all of its runs together in the fourth inning and that was enough to grab a 3-2 victory over Wagner in the opening game of the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational Tournament Friday morning.

How It Happened
  • Wagner scored single runs in the first on Hana Gilbert's RBI double and in third on Megan Moore's homer.
  • Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, the Tigers sprung to life by generating four hits in the frame.
  • Shelby Stracher provided the big blast of the inning with a two-run homer that tied the game, 2-2. Scoring ahead of her was Daria Edwards, who led off with a walk.
  • Three straight two-out singles from Kaylen Minnatee, Caroline Reid and Bailey Boyd produced the go-ahead run for the Tigers.
  • Jessica South, who pinch-ran for Minnatee, scored the eventual winning run.
  • The pitching tandem of Blakely Thrower and Ambar Hickman made the lead stand-up.
  • Thrower earned her third win in the circle by allowing two earned runs in five innings.
