Women's Swimming Sets School Record On Day Three of CAAs

RICHMOND, Va. – The Towson women's swimming program set a school record, earned four medals and posted three NCAA-B Cut times on day three of the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimming Championships. The Tigers stayed in third-place overall with 374.50 points on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED (FINALS)
  • Senior Hannah Snyder became the first 2016 Towson CAA Champion after she won the 400-yard individual medley. She earned an NCAA-B Cut time of 4:16.94 in the event finals for the first-place finish. She also posted an NCAA-B Cut time in the preliminaries, timing 4:16.72. Fellow senior Christine Hammond also medaled in the event. Hammond won silver with a time of 4:19.84.
  • The Tigers had two top-eight finishers in the 200-yard freestyle. Senior Charlotte Holz placed sixth (1:50.32) while junior Melissa Toy finished eighth (1:51.18).
  • Senior Jenna Van Camp won silver in the 100-yard breaststroke, earning an NCAA-B Cut time of 1:00.82 in the finals. She timed 1:00.53 in the morning preliminaries.
  • Sophomore Jacy Icard impressed in the 100-yard backstroke finals, winning bronze with an NCAA-B Cut time of 54.62. Her time set a school record for the event, replacing Amanda Skroupa's 2013 record of 55.03.
  • The Tigers wrapped up day three of the conference meet, finishing fourth in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Icard, Van Camp, freshman Tara Goss and Holz timed 3:44.85.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (CONSOLATION FINALS)
  • Sophomore Corie Morton finished 11th overall in the 400-yard individual medley. She timed 4:25.24 in the consolation finals, improving almost three seconds on her preliminary time (4:28.29).
  • Goss won the consolation finals for the 100-yard butterfly, timing 55.65. Junior Olivia Evans finished 16th overall with a time of 56.73. Both Tigers improved on their preliminary times for the event.
  • Sophomore Caitlin Manthe finished 16th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.80.
  • Freshman Sara Lacusky was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke consolation finals, finishing 10th overall (1:03.91). Fellow freshman Amanda Rosa finished 15th overall, timing 1:05.05. Both Tigers posted faster times in the event finals than the preliminaries.
  • In the 100-yard backstroke consolation finals, freshman Natalie Obando finished third (11th overall) with a time of 55.94.
 
 
The 2016 CAA Swimming Championships wrap up on Saturday, Feb. 27. Time trials begin at 10 a.m. with finals beginning at 4 p.m.
