TOWSON, Md - So nice, she did it twice,
Shannon Parrau delivered a phenomenal performance at the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championship, earning silver on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. After narrowly missing a podium finish with fourth-place finishes in both events as a sophomore, Parrau came into this season determined to make her mark.
In her freshman year, Parrau was named the CAA Women's Rookie Diver of the Year after a stellar performance at the CAA Championships. She finished fourth in the 1-meter competition with a score of 266.45 and placed ninth in the 3-meter competition with a score of 262.65.
For Parrau, success seems to come in pairs. In her sophomore year, she earned two CAA Women's Diver of the Week honors and followed that up with an impressive fourth-place finish on the 1-meter board at the CAA Championships, scoring 256.15. She also secured another fourth-place finish in the 3-meter competition with a score of 281.50.
Reflecting on her shift in mindset for her third season, Parrau explained, "I knew from day one of practice that my mindset had to change from last year. I was paralyzed by the fear of the unknown, trapped in a cycle of negativity." She continued, "This year, I accepted that things might not always go my way and focused on building my confidence."
Parrau went on to have a standout junior season, earning three CAA Diver of the Week honors. She then delivered a stellar performance at the championships, securing second place with a score of 275.1 on 1-meter and another second-place finish with a score of 294.10 on 3-meter.
Heading into her senior year and final season as a Tiger, Parrau is ready to give it everything she's got.
"I'm excited for my final season, especially since I'll be sharing it with teammates who have been my rock through all the challenges", Parrau says. "I couldn't have accomplished anything without them. As I go into my final year, I'm looking forward to diving with trust in myself and seeing how far that can take me."
With the lessons learned, the support of her teammates, and a renewed sense of confidence, Parrau is ready to leave a lasting legacy, both in the pool and beyond.
