TOWSON, Md. – Now the real fun begins for the Towson University men's basketball team.
The calendar has flipped to February, which is the money month in college hoops. Towson is right where it believed it would be when practice started in October: In the thick of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship chase and sitting comfortably in the Catbird's Seat.
The Tigers begin an arduous two-game swing to the College of Charleston and Elon this week tied for second place with William & Mary. Towson defeated W&M, 76-69 on New Year's Eve. Each squad trails league leading Hofstra and UNCW by a game.
With eight games remaining, Towson controls its conference destiny. The Tigers will not have to scoreboard watch. They will not have to hope for teams lose. For, if Towson handles business one game at a time, it will enjoy the view from the top on Feb. 27.
It won't be easy, but the Tigers are confident they have what it takes to create some special memories.
