ARLINGTON, Va. – The Towson women's tennis team dropped a hard fought match to Georgetown 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Arlington YMCA. Lucy Williams led the Tiger effort with a No. 1 singles victory. She combined with Lucy Gloninger for Towson's sole doubles win.

HOW IT HAPPENED (DOUBLES)

• Georgetown won two of the three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point.
• The Tiger duo of Lucy Williams and Lucy Gloninger earned a 6-1 victory in the second doubles spot, defeating Margaret Psyhogeos and Liselot Koenen.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (SINGLES)

• Williams earned a singles win in the number one spot, defeating Victoire Saperstein 7-5, 6-2.
• In the third singles spot, Barbora Vasilkova fought off five match points against Sophie Barnard for the win. Vasilkova dropped the first set 6-3 but recovered to win 7-5 in the second spot. In the third set tiebreaker, Vasilkova hung on for a 12-10 tally.
• Nicole Shakhnazarova dropped a third set decision to Risa Nakagawa. Shakhnazarova won the first set 7-5 before losing the second set and third set by matching 6-1 scores.
• Sophie Lesage fell in the fourth doubles position to Sara Swift. Lesage won the first set 6-2 before falling 6-4 in the second set. In the third set, Swift earned a 4-4 (10-5) score to win the matchup.

"If you look at the score, it could have very easily gone Towson's way," said head coach Doug Neagle. "We had it on all three courts for doubles but couldn't close it out. Credit to Georgetown for getting more aggressive in doubles during the critical points.
 
"Lucy Williams had an outstanding day, rolling in singles and doubles," Neagle continued. "Barbora Vasilkova fought off five match points to win a very intense battle. Each rally in her match was so long. The girls left it all out there in singles play."
 
The Tigers host George Washington on Friday, Feb. 12 for a 9:30 p.m. match at the Bare Hills Racquet and Fitness Club.
