NORFOLK, Va. – Towson jumped out to an early, but it was a pair of big innings for Norfolk State that proved to be the difference as the Tigers fell, 12-7, Friday evening in the series opener.
How it Happened- The Tigers got on the board in the third inning after Cuinn Mullins drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on Colin Dyer's sacrifice fly. Brady Policelli followed with a run-scoring single through the left side.
- Towson (2-9) added to its lead in the fourth inning by pushing across four more runs. Back-to-back walks from Colin Gimblet and Richard Miller were followed by A.J. Gallo's RBI double. Mullins followed with a two-run single to left center. Richie Palacios drove in the fourth run with a single through the left side.
- The Spartans (5-8) began their comeback with a run in the fourth inning before added four more runs in the fifth.
- NSU took its first lead of the game in the seventh inning as they pushed across six runs. Syeed Mahdi gave the Spartans the lead with a three-run home to left field and Angel Rosario drove in two more runs with a double to right field.
- Towson got one run back in the eighth as Miller walked and Gallo singled. After both runners advanced on a wild pitch, Mullins delivered an RBI infield single.
- The threat of the big inning did not continue after a 1-5-3 double play.
- David Marriggi (0-2) suffered the loss after giving up six runs, three earned, on five hits over 2.1 innings.
- Chase Anderson (3-1) gave up one run on four hits and four strikeouts over two innings to pick up the victory.
- Mullins led the offense by going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
- Fellow freshman Palacios had a team-high three hits and drove in a run.
