WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Towson women's tennis team fell to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival UNCW by a close 4-3 score on Friday evening. The Tigers wrapped up their four-game spring break trip with the loss to the Seahawks at the UNCW Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED (DOUBLES PLAY)

• UNCW took an early 1-0 lead in the match after winning two of the three doubles matches.
• The Seahawks won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles while the No. 1 matchup between Nicole Shakhnazarova and Barbora Vasilkova and the Seahawk's Christine Kharkevitch and Laura Gomez was unfinished.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (SINGLES PLAY)

• Shakhnazarova continued a three-match win streak with a No. 1 singles victory. She defeated Madara Staume by a close score of 6-4, 7-5.
• Lucy Williams earned a third-set victory at No. 2 singles over Kharkevitch. She won the first set 6-4 before falling in the second set by a close score of 7-6(3). Williams secured the victory after a long third set, winning it 10-8.
• At No. 6 singles, Lucy Gloninger picked up the Tigers' other singles win. She defeated Hollie Champion 6-4, 6-3.
• The Tigers had two close singles losses as both Vasilkova and A.J. Gomer fell in three sets.
• Vasilkova won the first set 6-1 against Alix Theodossiou before ultimately falling by close scores of 7-5 and 11-9 in the final two sets at No. 3 singles.
• Gomer earned a 6-4 win in the first set but was edged by Gomez 6-3, 6-2 in the final two sets at No. 4 singles.

 
UP NEXT
The Tigers head north to play two matches in New York. Towson faces Fordham on Friday, March 26 at 10 a.m. before battling CAA foe Hofstra on Saturday, March 27 at 11 a.m.
