TOWSON, Md. –
Kendyl Scott probably still hasn't landed from Cloud Nine.
Under a blanket of gray overcast skies, Scott attacked the first pitch she saw leading off the bottom of the seventh inning and blasted a walkoff home run over the leftfield fence to lift Towson to a spine-tingling, 8-7 victory over Fordham at Tiger Softball Stadium Saturday morning.
The dynamic sparkplug enjoyed a memorable day for the Towson University softball team. As she rounded third base with a huge smile, Scott leaped onto home plate and into the arms of a her jubilant teammates.
In one of its most memorable victories of a special 2016 season, Towson raised its overall record to 19-5. This is the Tigers' best start to a season since 1987.
How It Happened- Scott's home run was the second of two impactful plays she made within five minutes to help Towson conquer Fordham.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, she fired a rocket to home plate to cut down a Fordham runner, who would have scored the go-ahead run.
- Scott also nailed a runner at third base to end the third inning.
- In a back-and-fourth affair, Towson and Fordham answered each other throughout the game trading four and three run frames during the first six innings.
- Bailey Boyd and Brook Miko homered for the Tigers in the second inning to stake the Tigers to a 3-0 advantage.
- Fordham answered by scoring four in the third inning highlighted by Rachel Gillen's two-run homer.
- Holiday Cahill hit a grand slam when she destroyed a two-out, 3-2 pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning. That gave Towson a 7-4 lead.
- Fordham scored three times in the top of the sixth inning to tie game, 7-7, setting the stage for Scott's heroics.
- Olivia Baltazar had her third multi-hit game this week with two hits.
- Throwing 135 pitches, Megan Dejter was courageous throughout in pitching through turbulence throughout the game.
- Dejter earned her eighth win of the season by making big pitches whenever she needed them.
