Drexel Defeats the Tigers in the Regular Season Finale

TOWSON, Md. – A hot shooting Drexel team defeated the Towson University women's basketball team 74-33 in the regular season finale for both Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) squads Wednesday night. Freshmen Brittany Tarr and Sianni Martin led the Tigers with nine points each on "Senior Night" in SECU Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Drexel opened up an 8-3 lead on the Tigers with a Sarah Curran jumper at 3:41 of the first quarter.
  • Back-to-back baskets from Tarr and senior guard Dominique Johnson cut the Tiger deficit to one, 8-7 with 2:48 left on the clock.
  • A 4-0 run pushed the visitors' lead back to five, 12-7 with 53 seconds left in the stanza.
  • Tarr completed a three-point play 39 seconds showing on the clock and the Tigers trailed by just two, 12-10.
  • Alexis Smith hit a lay-up with five seconds left in the first and Drexel led 14-10 after one quarter.
  • Drexel had the hot shooting hand in the second quarter. The visitors shot 50% from the field and made three three-pointers. Towson shot just 8.3% from the field as the Dragons outscored the Tigers 20-3 in the period.
  • Drexel held a 34-13 lead at the half.
  • The Dragons maintained their double digit advantage throughout the third and fourth quarters before settling for the 74-33 victory.
  • The Dragons continued to shoot the ball well as they posted a 50% field goal percentage in the third quarter and shot 72.7% in the fourth quarter.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The Tigers honored their seniors before the game in Johnson and Brianna Taylor.
  • The Tigers finished the game shooting 23.1% from the field while Drexel shot 54% from the field.
  • Tarr led Towson with nine points and nine rebounds.
  • Martin tied Tarr for the team lead with nine points.
  • Curran led Drexel with 13 points while Carrie Alexander tied Tarr for a game-high nine rebounds.
  • Drexel won the rebounding battle, 37-27.
  • Towson recorded eight steals to Drexel's six.

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, March 9 when the CAA Championship begins at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Towson will be the 10th seed and face the number seven seed at 2:30 p.m. that day. The Tigers will face either William & Mary or College of Charleston pending the outcome of Saturday's final CAA contest.
