TOWSON, Md. – The Towson women's tennis team travels north to face Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival Hofstra on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center.
The Tigers are coming off a four-match swing of the Carolinas for their spring break trip. Towson (7-6, 0-3 CAA) earned a victory over Savannah State on the trip, sweeping the Lady Tigers 7-0.
Nicole Shakhnazarova led the Tiger effort in the Carolinas, winning three matches at No. 1 singles. She earned straight-set victories against Savannah State and UNCW, along with a three-set comeback win over University of Massachusetts.
Seven of the Tigers are in double-digits for singles victories this season. Barbora Vasillkova has a team-best 15 singles wins including a 10-3 record in dual-match play. Towson is outscoring its opponents 91-64 in singles play this season.
Towson's doubles play is highlighted by
A.J. Gomer and Renate van Ooroschodt who are 8-4 on the season. Doubles play has been key for the Tigers this season as five of their six losses have come after losing the opening doubles point.
Hofstra defeated Fairfield 6-1 on Wednesday to extend a three-match win streak. The Pride are 1-1 in CAA play and 7-2 on the season. The doubles team of Giulia Leone and Disha Yellayi earned CAA Doubles Team of the Week honors on Tuesday and have won five matches this season. Sarah Herndon leads the Pride in singles play with 10 victories this season.
The Tigers travel next to Virginia for a pair of neutral site matches. The Tigers take on Davidson College on April 2 at 12 p.m. and CAA rival Elon on April 3 at 10 a.m. Both matches will be held at Hillside Courts in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
