700 Club: Gottlieb Wins 700th Game as Tigers Take Series

KENNESAW, Ga. – Towson head coach Mike Gottlieb won his 700th career game as the Tigers defeated Kennesaw State, 6-5, Saturday afternoon to take the series from the Owls.
 
How it Happened
  • The Tigers struck for a pair of runs in the first inning as Chris Henze delivered an RBI double to right center.  Colin Gimblet followed with an RBI groundout.
  • Towson added to its lead in the third as Gimblet started a two-out rally with a base on balls.  Richard Miller plated Gimblet with a double to left center, then scored on a Colin Dyer single through the left side.
  • The Owls got two runs back in the home-half of the inning as David Chabut delivered an RBI double to left center and Chris Erwin drove him home with a single to center.
  • Henze got a run back for the Tigers in the fourth with a two-out RBI double down the left field line.
  • Colin Dyer scored the sixth run of the game in the fifth as he doubled down the left-field line to start the inning before scoring on a double play later in the inning.
  • KSU pulled within one run in seventh as Jordan Getzelman drove in two runs with a triple to right center, then scored on a Chabut single to center.
  • The Owls tried to tie the game in the eighth as they put a runner on second with one out.  Matt Golczewski made sure the tieing run stayed there as he came out of the bullpen and got a pair of flyouts to end the threat.
  • Kevin Ross (1-3) picked up his first win of the season after allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits over 5.2 innings.
  • Golczewski (1) retired all five hitters he faced to earn his first save of the season.
  • AJ Moore (1-2) allowed six runs on seven hits over four innings in taking the loss.
  • Gimblet and Dyer each collected three hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
  • Henze finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and drove in two runs.

The Tigers return to action Tuesday afternoon as they travel to face Delaware State.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
