HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson women's tennis team earned its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) win of the season after sweeping Hofstra 7-0 on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED (DOUBLES PLAY)- The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead in the match after winning two of the three doubles matches.
- Lucy Williams and Lucy Gloninger combined for a 6-3 win over Sarah Bowen and Carmen Pestano at No. 1 doubles.
- Nicole Shakhnazarova and Barbora Vasilkova posted a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles over Michal Kaplan and Sarah Catherine Herndon.
- The Tigers' duo of Renate van Oorschodt and A.J. Gomer had a hard fought loss at No. 3 doubles. The duo fell to Disha Yellayi and Giulia Leone 7-6(5).
HOW IT HAPPENED (SINGLES PLAY)- The Tigers swept singles play, winning two matches in straight sets and four in three-set tiebreakers.
- Gomer defeated Pestano 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot while Gloninger posted a 6-2, 6-1 win against Yellayi at No. 5 singles.
- Shakhanzarova won the first set 7-6(4) over Bowen before falling 6-2 in the second set. She responded with a strong 6-4 win in the third set to secure the victory at the No. 1 spot.
- At No. 2 singles, Williams posted a three-set comeback victory over Kaplan. She fell by a close 6-4 score in the first set but won the final two sets 6-4 and 7-6(8).
- Vasilkova defeated Herndon 6-3 in the first set at No. 3 singles before falling 6-4 in the second set. She earned the win with a 6-4 score in the final set.
- van Oorschodt rounded out the final three-set matches for the Tigers at the No. 6 spot. She had a tough 7-6(4) loss in the first set to Leone but responded by winning 6-2 and 6-3 in the final sets.
BEYOND THE SCORESHEET- Shakhanzarova extended her win streak to four matches with her No. 1 singles victory. She is now 13-7 on the season.
- Other Tigers with win streaks include Gloninger who has won three-straight singles matches.
- The doubles point is proving to be crucial for the Tigers. All eight of the Tigers' victories have come after winning the opening doubles point. Towson has only lost only one match this season when securing the doubles point.
UP NEXTThe Tigers travel next to Virginia for a pair of neutral site matches. The Tigers take on Davidson College on April 2 at 12 p.m. and CAA rival Elon on April 3 at 10 a.m. Both matches will be held at Hillside Courts in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
