TOWSON, Md. – Freshman attacker
Carly Tellekamp scored the game-winning goal with 24 seconds to play in regulation to lift the No. 20 Towson University women's lacrosse team to an 8-7 win over Georgetown University on Saturday afternoon in Johnny Unitas® Stadium. The Tigers (5-0) matched the best start in school history with the win (5-0 starts also recorded by the 2005 and 1992 teams).

HOW IT HAPPENED- The Tigers found themselves trailing for the first time this season in the first half as Georgetown (0-4) scored the first two goals of the game. Morgan Rubin scored a free position goal before Kristen Bandos found the back of the net. The Hoyas led 2-0 with 28:27 to go in the first.
- Towson used goals from sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano and junior attacker Michaela Duranti to tie the game at 2-2 with 21:27 left in the half.
- Georgetown scored three of the next four goals in the game and took a 5-3 advantage with 16:58 to go in the stanza. Bandos and Rubin each scored their second goal of the game during that stretch while Corinne Etchison had a pair of assists.
- Redshirt junior midfielder Michelle Gildea's second goal of the game and Tellekamp's first of the day allowed Towson to tie the game at 5-5 with 6:20 showing on the clock.
- Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the final six minutes and the two squads went into the half tied at 5-5.
- Towson struck first in the second half as senior midfielder Breanna Hamm scored off a pass from Montalbano. The Tigers led 6-5 with 24:59 to play.
- Back-to-back goals for the Hoyas gave the visitors a 7-6 lead with 18:02 to go in the game.
- Towson made a goalie switch as senior Alyssa Saxon entered the game following the second Georgetown goal.
- The Tigers won the ensuing draw and sophomore midfielder Emily Gillingham scored off a pass from Montalbano, which tied the game at 7-7 with 17:24 to play.
- Both teams had their chances over the next several minutes as the Tigers killed off a yellow card, thanks to a strong defensive showing and Saxon came up with a big stop on a free position shot.
- With 3:38 to play, Hamm forced a caused turnover and picked up the ground ball which gave the Tigers the ball back.
- After working the ball around, Tellekamp was fouled and she scored the free position goal which gave the Tigers the 8-7 lead with 24 seconds to play.
- Georgetown won the draw control and found Etchison with a pass to the side of the net. However, she dropped the ball and senior defender Emily Roth picked up the ground ball to seal the win.
QUOTABLE- "I thought that was the best team we've played all season," said Towson head coach Sonia LaMonica. "They came out firing and gave us a hard time on the draw. I thought for us to win was a great achievement. With our backs up against the wall, we kept fighting. I told the team to trust in the process. It was a battle throughout."
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE- The Tigers have now won three straight against the Hoyas.
- Freshman Angie Benson made one save before giving way to Saxon in net for the final 18:02. Saxon made one save in her second appearance of the year to earn the win in goal. Maddy Fisher made three saves in the first half for Georgetown. Megan McDonald made two saves in the second half for the Hoyas.
- The Tigers continue to showcase a balanced attack as six Tigers scored in the game. Tellekamp and Gildea led the way with two goals each while Montalbano had a goal and two assists.
- Rubin and Bandos led Georgetown with two goals each while Etchison had two assists.
- Georgetown finished with a 10-7 edge in the draw control battle.
- Towson held an 11-6 advantage in ground balls.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, March 11 as they travel to Stetson for a 6 p.m. game.
