BALTIMORE, Md. – Colin Gimblet collected two hits and threw out a runner at the plate, but it was not enough as Towson fell, 12-3, to UMBC Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.
How it Happened- The Retrievers (3-9) got on the board in the first inning after a failed pickoff attempt moved a runner to third, allowing him to score on a sacrifice fly.
- UMBC added its second unearned run in the second inning after a throwing error on a double-play attempt allowed a run to score.
- The Tigers got a run back in the third inning as Jay Sanford doubled to right center and came in to score on Colin Dyer's groundout to short.
- The Retrievers added three runs in the fourth as a bases-loaded line drive off the pitchers leg scored one run. The Tigers reliever was greeted with a two-run single to right field by Nick Naumann.
- Towson got a run back in the sixth as Brady Policelli launched a no-doubt solo shot to left field.
- Chris Henze followed with a walk, and A.J. Gallo singled through the right side, before Colin Gimblet drove in Henze with a double off the fence in left center.
- UMBC came right back in the home-half of the inning with three-straight hits to drive in a run. A sacrifice fly drove in the second run of the inning.
- The Retrieves pushed across five runs in the seventh inning to extend their advantage.
- Mark Smith (0-1) suffered the loss in his first start of the season, allowing five runs, three earned, over 3.1 innings.
- Jacob Christian (1-0) picked up the victory after giving up three runs over 5.2 innings.
