TOWSON, Md. – The Towson women's tennis team heads south for a pair of neutral-site weekend matches in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The Tigers face Davidson College on April 2 at noon followed by Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival Elon on April 3 at 11 a.m. Both matches will take place at Hillside Courts.
Towson (8-6, 1-3 CAA) is coming off a 7-0 sweep over CAA rival Hofstra last weekend for its first conference win of the season.
Nicole Shakhnazarova earned a three-set victory at No. 1 singles to extend her win streak to four matches.
Lucy Gloninger also extended a singles win streak to three matches with a straight-sets victory at the No. 5 spot.
Seven Tigers have double-digit singles wins this season.
Barbora Vasilkova has a team-best 16 singles victories. She has partnered with Shakhnazarova to lead the Tigers in doubles play as the duo has a 12-8 record this season.
The doubles point is proving to be crucial for the Tigers. All eight of the Tigers' victories have come after winning the opening doubles point. Towson has lost only one match this season when securing the doubles point.
Davidson enters this weekend with a 13-2 record. The Wildcats are led by
Anna Catharine Feaster who earned Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors after improving to 9-5 in singles play. She has a three-match win streak for singles play along with a 10-match win streak for doubles play with partner
Ally Sexton.
Elon (8-9) will face CAA foe James Madison on Saturday before battling the Tigers on Sunday. The Phoenix earned a 7-0 sweep over conference member Delaware on Thursday.
Erica Braschi posted a No. 2 singles win for her team-high 11th singles victory of the season. Braschi has won seven consecutive singles matches.
Towson travels to CAA rival Drexel on Wednesday, April 4 before returning home for a four-match home stand to close out the regular season.
