Dyer Homer Wins First Game of Doubleheader

TOWSON, Md. – Junior Colin Dyer hit a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Towson a 3-2 victory over James Madison in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.  The victory clinched the series for the Tigers.

How It Happened
  • The Tigers got on the board quickly as Richie Palacios singled through the left side and hustled around to score as Colin Gimblet ripped a 3-2 pitch off the fence in left center.
  • The Dukes tied the game in the second as a hit by pitch, slow roller up the third-base line and a walk loaded the bases with two outs.  A wild pitch allowed one run to score, but that was it as a line drive to right ended the inning.
  • The duo of Palacios and Gimblet struck again in the fifth inning to give the lead back to Towson.  With one out, Palacios singled off the glove of a diving second baseman.  He then stole second and advanced to third on the throwing error.  Gimblet then drove in the runner with a double to deep left center.
  • JMU once again tied the game in the sixth with the help of the Tigers.  Zach Tondi singled to start the inning and moved his way to third with one out.  After a groundout, the next hitter struck out, but reached safely on the passed ball, scoring Tondi.
  • Towson regained the lead with two outs in the sixth as Colin Dyer hit the first pitch he saw over the fence in right field for a solo shot.  It is his third homer of the season.
  • Kevin Ross did not factor into the decision in another strong outing.  He gave up two runs, one earned, on just three hits and four strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
  • Lee Lawler (2-1) earned the victory out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit and striking out three over the final 1.2 innings.
  • Michael Evans (2-1) allowed the one run on one hit in his only inning of work to suffer the loss.
  • Gimblet led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI doubles.
