Tigers Fall in Midweek Contest

TOWSON, MD. – The Towson Tigers dropped a midweek decision, 9-2, to George Washington Tuesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.  The loss put an end to the Tigers three-game win streak.
 
Hot It Happened
  • The Colonials (13-21) got on the board in the first inning on a Bobby Campbell two-run homer to left center.
  • Towson (14-19) got one run back in the third after Clark Clatchey singled through the right side and came around to score on a Brady Policelli RBI single to left center.
  • GW answered right back with an RBI single from Matthieu Robert.
  • Colin Dyer got the offense going for the Tigers in the fourth inning with a single to left field.  After a walk to John Drexel, Clatchey delivered an RBI single up the middle.
  • The top of the fifth was the difference as the Colonials strung together five hits and pushed across four runs.  The inning was ignited by a fielding error to the leadoff batter.
  • GW tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning.
  • David Marriggi (1-3) took the loss after giving up seven runs, five earned, on eight hits over four-plus innings.
  • Robbie Metz (1-4) picked up the victory in his predetermined four innings of work.  He allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out three.
  • Dean Stramara was effective out of the bullpen as he gave up four hits over four shutout innings.
  • Policelli led the offense by going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Clatchey added two hits and an RBI.
 
On Deck
The Tigers return to the diamond Wednesday afternoon as they welcome UMBC to Schuerholz Park.  First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
