Quick Start Carries Towson To Fifth Straight Victory

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Towson University softball team started fast and rolled to a 10-2 non-conference victory over Georgetown at Guy Mason Field Wednesday afternoon. In extending its winning streak to five games, the Tigers (27-10 overall) added a fresh coat of shellac to their latest masterpiece.

How It Happened
  • Performing with offensive poetry worthy of recital, Towson scored seven runs in the first inning.
  • The Tigers turned four Georgetown errors into six unearned runs in the first inning.
  • Brook Miko got Towson on the board early with a RBI single for a 1-0 lead.
  • Caroline Reid delivered the biggest hit of the first inning, a two-run double that gave Towson a 5-0 advantage.
  • Georgetown's Gabriela Elvina homered in the fourth to slice the Tigers' lead to 7-1.
  • Towson immediately answered as Nicole Stockinger opened the fifth inning with a single and Courtney Johnson walked to set the stage for Daria Edwards, who flexed her muscles.
  • After Reid's successful sacrifice moved Stockinger and Johnson up a base, Edwards slammed a one-out three-run homer down the leftfield line that swelled the Tigers lead to 10-1.
  • Edwards' blast was Towson's 49th of the season, tying the single-season record set last year.
  • Seven different Tigers had hits led by Kendyl Scott and Miko, who had two each.
  • Nicole Stockinger and Courtney Johnson scored two runs each.
  • Holiday Cahill walked twice.
  • Megan Dejter earned her team-leading 11th win by tossing her 16th complete game of the season.
  • Of the 15 outs Dejter recorded, nine of them were flyballs.

  • This was the second time this season, Edwards drove in at least three runs in a single game.
  • She slugged her seventh homer of the season and first since March 12.
  • Towson extended its winning streak to 33 when scoring at least seven runs.
  • The Tigers are 20-1 this season when scoring at least six runs.
  • Towson has scored double-digit runs 11 times.
