Palacios Homers in Loss to Elon

ELON, N.C. – Freshman Richie Palacios hit his third home run of the season, but it was not enough as Towson fell, 7-6 to Elon Saturday afternoon at Latham Park.

How It Happened
  • Towson (14-22, 5-3 CAA) got on the board in the first inning as Palacios single through the left side and stole second.  Two batters later, Brady Policelli delivered an RBI triple to right center.
  • Chris Henze followed with a single to center to score Policelli.
  • The Phoenix (14-21, 6-7 CAA) took the lead in the second inning on a three-run homer from Liam O'Regan.
  • The Tigers answered back in the top of the third after Colin Gimblet drew a walk and came around to score on a Henze single to center.
  • Elon quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double from CJ Young.
  • The score would remain that way until the seventh when Palacios tied the game with a two-run homer to right, his third of the season.
  • The Phoenix got a sacrifice fly to take the lead in the seventh, and then added what turned out to be the game-winning run with another sacrifice fly in the eighth.
  • Towson tried to rally in the ninth as Richard Miller, Spencer Sutton and Palacios each singled to load the bases with no outs.  A double play scored a run, but a strikeout ended the game with the tying run on third.
  • Palacios paced the offence by going 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.  He also stole his 26th base of the season.
  • Henze finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Policelli and Miller each had two hits.
  • Dean Stramara (1-3) suffered the loss after giving up one run on two hits over 3.2 innings of relief.
  • Danny Crowe (3-0) picked up the victory in relief, allowing two runs on one hit over one inning.
  • Chris Hall allowed one run on four hits over the final two innings for his seventh save of the season
