Baseball Falls in Finale at Elon

ELON, N.C – The Towson baseball team dropped the final game of their CAA series at Elon, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Latham Park.

How It Happened
  • Elon (15-21, 7-7 CAA) got a run in the first without the benefit of a base hit.  A one-out walk was moved to second on a wild pitch.  After a fly ball moved the runner to third, the second wild pitch score the runner.
  • The Phoenix extended the lead in the second inning as Ryne Ogren delivered an RBI single to right center and Tyler McVicar followed two batters later with a two-run single to left.
  • The Tigers (14-23, 5-4 CAA) had a chance to get back into the game in the third inning.  Jay Sanford, Tristan Howerton and Richie Palacios each walked to start the inning.  Colin Gimblet delivered a sacrifice fly to left field, but that is all the Tigers would get in the inning.
  • Towson pushed across another run in the fifth as Howerton started the inning with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch.  Gimblet drove in Howerton with a single up the middle.
  • Elon got the run back in the sixth on a solo home run from Liam O'Regan.
  • Gimblet led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
  • Howerton drew a pair of walks and scored a run in three plate appearances.
  • Kevin Ross (2-4) took the loss after giving up five runs on six hits and seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
  • David Marriggi was very effective out of the bullpen, retiring all eight hitters he faced, including four via the strikeout.
  • Jordan Barrett (1-3) allowed two runs on three hits over five innings to pick up the victory.
  • Chris Hall (7) allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth for the save.
