Morris Effective in Loss to UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Freshman Skyler Morris allowed just two runs over six innings of work in Towson's 7-2 loss to UNCW in the CAA series opener Friday evening.

How It Happened
  • The Seahawks (25-9, 6-2 CAA) got on the board in the first inning as Steven Linkous singled to start the inning and came around to score on a Brian Mims single to right center.
  • The next four innings would be a pitcher's duel as Morris and UNCW starter Ryan Foster put zeroes on the board.  Over that stretch, the two pitchers combined to allow just three base hits.
  • Towson (14-25, 5-5 CAA) got its offense going in the sixth inning after Brady Policeli walked and stole second.  Chris Henze followed with a single to left center to tie the game.
  • UNCW quickly regained the lead in the home-half of the inning on a Nick Feight solo home run to right field.
  • The Seahawks broke the game open in the seventh inning as a costly Tigers error helped pave the way for four unearned runs as part of a five-run inning.
  • The Tigers attempted a rally in the ninth as Policelli walked for the third time and Henze followed with a single to center.  Two batters later, Cuinn Mullins singled to load the bases.  Colin Dyer plated Policelli with a well-placed bunt down the third-base line.
  • Morris showed great composure in the loss.  After giving up a run on two hits to start the game, he settled in over the next 5.1 innings.  Over that span, he allowed just one hit.  He was saddled with the loss after allowing the solo home run in the sixth.
  • Foster (8-1) picked up the complete-game victory, allowing just two runs on six hits.
  • Henze led the offense with two hits and an RBI.
