Tigers Use 3-Run Rally to Defeat Charleston

TOWSON, Md. – Junior Brady Policelli delivered the game-winning two-run triple as part of a three-run eighth inning to give Towson a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the College of Charleston Friday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.

How It Happened
  • The Cougars (22-18-1, 6-7 CAA) jumped out to the early lead after Dupree Hart singled up the middle and came around to score on a wild pitch.
  • The Tigers (16-27, 6-7 CAA) tied the game in the fifth as Colin Dyer broke up the perfect game with a two-out double off the fence in left center field.  Richard Miller with a single through the right side to score Dyer.
  • The score would remain tied until the top of the eighth when the Cougars put runners on second and third with two outs.  Hart hit a grounder into the hole at second and beat the pitcher to the bag.  A hustling base runner never stopped rounding third and was able to beat the throw home with the second run.
  • Towson got right back into the game as Cuinn Mullins started the home-half of the inning with an infield single to short.  With one out, Chris Henze singled to left center and A. J. Gallo hit a grounder up the first-base line that hit the bag and bounced into the outfield for an RBI single.
  • On the next pitch, Policelli ripped a line drive into the gap in right center that plated both runners.
  • David Marriggi struck out two of the three hitters he faced in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
  • Skyler Morris continued his strong freshman campaign as he gave up just one run on six hits over 5.2 innings.
  • Matt Golczewski (3-1) earned the victory out of the bullpen after allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits over 2.1 innings.
  • Nathan Helvey (4-5) allowed four runs on eight hits over 7.1 innings to suffer the loss.
  • The victory was the first for the Tigers over CofC.  Towson had lost each of the first 10 meetings between the two teams.
