Baseball Take Series From Charleston

TOWSON, Md. – Towson got some early offense from Cuinn Mullins and strong pitching late from Austin Clark and David Marriggi to defeat the College of Charleston, 7-4, in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.  The victory gave the Tigers the series win over the Cougars.

How It Happened
  • The Cougars got on the board in the first inning after a one-out single advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt.  Bradley Dixon drove in the runner with a sacrifice fly to left field.
  • The Tigers got the offense going in the second inning as Cuinn Mullins belted an opposite-field two-run home run, his first of his career.
  • Tristan Howerton followed with a double just inside the third-base bag and Richie Palacios hit the next pitch through the right side for an RBI single.
  • Palacios stole second and scored on Colin Gimblet's single through the left side.
  • Towson added to its lead in the third as Colin Dyer tripled to right center and scored on Mullin's sacrifice fly to center.
  • The triple was Dyer's second of the doubleheader and CAA-leading sixth of the season.
  • CofC got a run back in the fourth on an RBI double from Logan McRae, before Bradley Jones hit a two-run homer in the fifth to make it a 5-4 game.
  • The Tigers extended the lead to 7-4 in the sixth inning as Chris Henze hit a line drive over the head of the centerfielder for a two-run double.  The double scored Palacios and Gimblet, both of which walked earlier in the inning.
  • Austin Clark (1-3) earned his first victory of the season after tossing 1.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit.
  • David Marriggi (2) picked up his second save of the weekend after tossing three shutout innings.
