TOWSON, Md. – Towson University right hander
Kevin Ross allowed just two earned runs over seven innings, but it was not to be as Delaware rallied late for a 9-6 victory Saturday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
How It Happened
- The Blue Hens (30-20, 8-12 CAA) got on the board in the first inning on a Diaz Nardo two-run double to right center with two outs.
- The Tigers (19-31, 9-11 CAA) got a run back in the home-half of the inning as Richie Palacios beat out an infield single and stole second. After moving to third on a groundout, Brady Policelli delivered a sacrifice fly to deep center field.
- UD added a run in the second as a fielding error came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Mohollen.
- TU tied the game in the second inning as A.J. Gallo beat out a bunt single and went to second on the throwing error. Palacios drove him in with a groundout to the right side before Colin Gimblet hit an RBI single to right center.
- The game would remain tied until the fifth when Policelli started the inning with a base hit to left center. After a single by Colin Dyer, Gallo delivered an RBI single to center. With runners on the corners, Gallo got into a run-down long enough to all Dyer to score from third.
- The Blue Hens were aided by another Tigers error in the seventh to push across one run on a sacrifice fly from Nardo.
- The Tigers got the run right back as Policelli hit the first pitch of the home-half of the inning over the right-field fence for his ninth home run of the season.
- UD rallied to take the lead in the eighth inning as they collected five hits and pushed across four runs. Kyle Baker had the big hit with a two-run double to left center. The Blue Hens added an insurance run in the ninth.
- Ross did not factor into the decision after a quality start. The junior allowed four runs, two earned, and struck out five over seven innings.
- Kyle Stricker (5-2) took the loss after surrendering three runs on three hits in just one-third of an inning.
- Brandon Walter (6-3) picked up the victory after allowing six runs on eight hits over seven innings.
- Burk FitzPatrick (4) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.
- Policelli led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
- Dyer and Gallo each added two hits and scored a run.
