Tigers Suffer Tough Setback

BOSTON, Mass. – Northeastern scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break the tied and propel the Huskies to a 3-2 victory over Towson University Friday afternoon.  The loss eliminated the Tigers from qualifying for the CAA Tournament.

How It Happened
  • The Tigers (19-35, 9-14 CAA) showed patience in pushing across two runs in the second inning.  A fielder's choice was followed by a walk and a hit batter to load the bases.  With two outs, Tristan Howerton and Richie Palacios drew back-to-back RBI walks.
  • The Huskies (29-24, 12-10) answered right back in the home-half of the inning and got RBI singles from Mason Kppens and Max Burt.
  • NU took the lead in the sixth inning as the first three hitters of the inning reached, including an RBI double from Charlie McConnell.
  • Left hander Matt Golczewski limited the damage to just the one run as he entered the game with runners on second and third with no outs.  After a flyout, Golczewski fielded a bunt, looked the runner back to third and got the runner at first.  The runner at second strayed too far from second and Colin Dyer threw to second to get the final out of the inning.
  • Golczewski tossed the final three innings for the Tigers, striking out two and not allowing a hit.
  • Kevin Ross (2-7) took the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits over five-plus innings.
  • Andrew Misiaszek (5-3) earned the win in relief after allowing one hit and striking out three over 3.1 innings.
  • Mike Fitzgerald (11) earned the save after striking out the only two hitters he faced.
