Two Big Innings Help Tigers Even Series

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Towson used a four-run sixth inning and a three-run seventh inning to defeat William & Mary, 9-1, and split the doubleheader with the Tribe Saturday evening at Plumeri Park.

How It Happened
  • The Tigers (18-29, 8-9 CAA) got on the board in the second inning as a walk to Cuinn Mullins and an error put runners on the corners with two outs.  Richie Palacios scored Mullins with a perfectly placed bunt single down the third-base line.
  • The Tribe (23-23, 12-6 CAA) tied the game in the fourth inning with an unearned run. Towson looked to be out of the inning without any damage, but a misplay on the infield allowed the run to score.
  • Towson quickly regained the lead in the fifth as Palacios walked on four pitches and scored on Colin Gimblet's RBI double to right center.
  • The Tigers strung together four hits and pushed across four runs in the sixth inning to open a 6-1 lead.
  • Mullins started the inning with a single to center field and scored on Tristan Howertson's single to right field.
  • Richie Palacios drove in Howerton with a double into the gap in right center.   For Palacios, it was his 67th hit of the season, establishing a new single-season freshman record at Towson.
  • After the Tigers scored their third run on a wild pitch, Chris Henze singled to right field to score Palacios.
  • Mullins started another rally in the seventh with a leadoff double to right center.  A Colin Dyer single moved Mullins to third, before he scored on a throwing error at the plate on a bunt.
  • Palacios drove in the second run of the inning with a groundout, while a throwing error allowed the third run of the inning to score.
  • Kyle Stricker (5-1) was lights out over the final 5.1 innings in earning the victory.  The left allowed just three hits and struck out two.
  • Starter Skyler Morris allowed just one unearned run on four hits and four strikeouts over 3.2 innings in the no decision.
  • Bodie Sheehan (3-4) took the loss after surrendering two runs, one earned, on three hits over four innings.
  • Mullins led the Tigers offense by going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three runs scored.
  • Palacios collected two hits, drove in three runs and scored two times.
