PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Colonial Athletic Association Champions! The Towson University women's lacrosse team captured its seventh CAA Championship with a 14-6 win over James Madison University on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers won their fourth CAA title in the last five year under Head Coach

Breanna Hamm was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after posting two goals, five ground balls, four caused turnovers and a draw control in the championship game.

HOW IT HAPPENED- The two teams traded goals and found themselves tied at 1-1 with 28:45 to play in the first half. Hamm had the early goal for the Tigers.
- Hamm's second goal of the game at 26:49 starting a 4-0 run that gave Towson a 5-1 lead with 22:13 left in the stanza. Sophomore midfielder Emily Gillingham, freshman midfielder Natalie Sulmonte and junior attacker Gabby Cha each scored during the run.
- The Tiger defense turned in another impervious performance as James Madison (10-9) did not score again until the Dukes got a goal from Betsy Angel at 9:54.
- Cha's second goal of the game at 3:42 sent the Tigers into the half with a 6-2 advantage.
- Towson (15-3) opened the second half with three straight goals from Sulmonte. The CAA Rookie of the Year recorded her fourth hat trick of the season.
- James Madison scored three of the next four goals and cut the Towson lead to 10-5 with 16:40 to play. Brooks Lawler scored two of those goals.
- Towson responded with three straight goals and pushed its lead to 13-5 with 2:25 to play. Gillingham and redshirt junior attacker Alyssa Ferro each scored their second goals of the game during that run while sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano tallied her first of the game.
- Lawler scored her third of the day for James Madison at 1:35 which made it a 13-6 game.
- Junior midfielder Samantha Brookhart scored an empty net goal with 56 seconds to play which capped the scoring and made it a 14-6 final.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE- Towson was playing in its sixth straight CAA Championship and has won the title in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016.
- Hamm was joined on the CAA All-Tournament team by Montalbano, Sulmonte and sophomore defender Tianna Wallpher.
- Montalbano and Sulmonte each finished with four points in the game. Montalbano had a goal and three assists to go along with two ground balls, one draw control and two caused turnovers. Sulmonte contributed the four goals and three draw controls.
- Gillingham and Ferro each had two goals and one assist while Brookhart finished with one goal and two assists.
- Freshman Angie Benson who made several stops on point blank shots finished with four saves in the win. Ellie Harmeyer made two saves in the loss for James Madison.
- James Madison finished with a 19-18 edge in shots in the game. The Dukes won 13 of the 22 draw controls in the game.
