ANNAPOLIS – Coming off of its biggest offensive output in a half decade, the Towson University women's soccer team could not get its offense in rhythm for the finale of the 2016 Navy Invitational.
Despite an even shooting day from both teams, Towson (2-5-1) had trouble beating Drake University keeper Haley Morris, falling to the Bulldogs 3-0.
How It Happened
- Towson keeper Taylor Sebolao was tested early, making a save in the fourth minute. But Drake's continued pressure led to a 1-0 Bulldog lead in the 17th minute as Kayla Armstong sent in a cross into the box for Rachel Wanninger.
- Despite early pressure from the Bulldogs, Towson found its rhythm late in the first half, taking six unanswered shots from six different players. The Tigers could not break through as Drake keeper Haley Morris stopped five Towson attempts. Sebolao made a pair of stops in the first 45 minutes, while her defense made one team save.
- The Bulldogs (6-0-1) doubled their lead in the 49th minute as Gabby Charles split two defenders for a 16-yard shot just under the crossbar.
- Despite shots even at nine a side, Towson surrendered a goal in the 85th minute on an Armstrong corner kick. The midfielder swung in the corner kick for her third of the year.
Behind the Numbers
- Both teams took eight shots, with former high school teammates McKenzie McCaull and Elizabeth Colletti pacing the Tigers with a pair each. On the day, seven different Towson players took shots.
- Sebolao made a trio of saves, including two in the first half. The Tiger defense made one team save in the first half. Sebolao's counterpart, Morris, made six saves in Drake's sixth shutout of the season.
- Towson earned seven corner kicks against the Bulldogs' four. The Tigers were whistled for 17 fouls while Drake was called for nine.
- The Tigers split their results at the 2016 edition of the Navy Invitational. Towson has won at least one game in four of its five appearances at the Invitational.
