Field Hockey Falls 2-0 to Lafayette in Road Matchup

EASTON, Pa. – The Towson University field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to Lafayette on Friday evening.
 
Lafayette (5-1) scored early in the first half before adding it's second of the game on a second-half penalty stroke to earn the victory over Towson (1-6).
 
How it Happened
  • The Leopards got on the board in the game's first five minutes as Rosa Jonckheer successfully converted a penalty corner opportunity. Amanda Magadan and Lisa Van der Geest earned the assists.
  • The rest of the first half was scoreless as Towson goalkeeper Emilee Woodall recorded three first-half saves.
  • Paige Zaleppa had the Tigers' lone scoring chance of the first half as her shot was blocked in the 33rd minute.
  • With just over 15 minutes remaining in the game, Magadan was awarded a penalty stroke and was able to get the ball past Woodall to give the Leopard's a 2-0 lead.
  • Towson's Katie McNeel had a scoring chance with under seven minutes left but her shot was denied by goalkeeper Katelyn Arnold.
 
Behind the Numbers
  • The game was the first matchup between the Leopards and Tigers since the 1989 season.
  • Lafayette outshot Towson 30-2 as Zaleppa and McNeel had the Tigers' scoring chances.
  • Woodall tallied nine saves, giving up just two goals over 70 minutes played.
  • The Leopards were awarded 11 penalty corner opportunities, successfully converting one chance.
 
Up Next
  • Towson returns to the friendly confines of Johnny Unitas® Stadium to face LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at noon. The Tigers and Blackbirds will battle each other for the first time ever.
  • Towson will be looking for its second win of the season, matching the program's win total from 2015.
  • With a win against the Blackbirds, it would be Towson's first victory over a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent since 2008.
