WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Despite junior goalkeeper
Emilee Woodall matching a career-high 16 saves, the Towson University field hockey team fell at William & Mary, 8-1 on Friday evening.
William & Mary (4-5, 1-0 CAA) scored five goals in the second half to defeat Towson (2-8, 0-1 CAA) in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener.
How it Happened
- William & Mary opened the scoring quickly as Estelle Hughes scored 23 seconds into the game. She added a second goal, assisted by Erin Menges, nine minutes later to give the Tribe a 2-0 lead.
- Towson responded in the game's 11th minute as Sabrina Davis scored from Devon Hake to cut the lead to one.
- The Tribe added a goal from Menges on a pass from Annie Snead to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
- William & Mary added five second-half goals to defeat the Tigers, 8-1. The Tribe used four goal scorers during that span as Menges added her second of the day and Snead scored twice.
Behind the Numbers
- Woodall matched her career-high with 16 saves over 42:31 of action. Megan Boyle came in on relief action, posting six saves over the game's final 27:29.
- The Tribe outshot the Tigers 45-2. Along with Davis' goal, Allie Stauffer recorded a shot for the Tigers.
- William & Mary was awarded 10 penalty corner chances, capitalizing on one opportunity.
